Acquisitions Are On The Rise

Glossybox and Birchbox are making moves.

Glossybox, a beauty subscription box, was recently acquired by The Hut Group, a UK online retailer and e-commerce platform operator.

“This is another significant investment for The Hut Group. In Glossybox, we have acquired a great brand, with a solid and engaged customer base that, once powered through our platform and marketing infrastructure, should be capable of further significant growth,” said Matthew Moulding, founder and CEO of The Hut Group.

Another well-known beauty box, Birchbox, is also holding talks of acquisition with major retailers.

According to Recode, the subscription commerce pioneer generates about $200 million in annual sales, and around 35 percent of its revenue comes from full-priced sales on its website and in its two brick-and-mortar stores, while adding a men’s box too. Creating a business model beyond the box is critical to growth and sustainability, whatever your long term focus.
